The Other Critics: Rampaging Southern Cheeseburgers

• The western-inflected Indian food (or is the other way around?) at Marigold comes under scrutiny this week, and Phil Vettel generally speaking likes the appetizers more than the entrees. The samosas in particular are a can’t-miss dish. Bonus: The review’s title is a pun that makes our inner theater geek grin ear-to-ear. [Tribune]

• Go south for yon cheeseburgers, friend — Kevin Pang hits up some Indiana-proximate burger joints in his quest to eat every cheeseburger in Chicago. Schoop’s and Phil’s Kastle are on the docket, and both succeed at their intentions: Schoop’s monstrous, greasy, griddled patty and Phil’s ideally balanced basic construction. [Tribune]

• At The Grocery Bistro, the food “wavers wildly from extreme deliciousness to edible horror show,” according to David Tamarkin. Chef Andre Christopher’s strong suit is comfort food, and when he strays from that into hipper, edgier territory, it — like the blaring music — feels incongruous and wrong. [TOC]

• Save this restaurant! Tamalli is a warm, intensely authentic Mexican restaurant focused on the glories of corn. More people should eat at it, because the food is awesome. [TOC]
