Harvesting The White House Organic Garden

After a few months caring for the White House garden, Michelle Obama and her team of school-age gardeners harvested 73 pounds of lettuce, 12 pounds of sweet peas, and other organic delights. Obama spoke to the students about the importance of eating vegetables — particularly local ones — and asked them to be her “little ambassadors” on issues of nutrition and health. The students then prepared a dinner along with White House chef (and former Avec cook) Sam Kass: breaded baked chicken, brown rice, and freshly shelled peas. [Washington Post]
