Burger King and the Dream of the One-Dollar Double Cheeseburger

Well, it was a good idea while it lasted: Burger King had contemplated lowering the price of their double cheeseburger to $1 for a four-month promotional period, in order to compete with McDonald’s. Franchisees overwhelmingly rejected the proposal, concerned that halving the menu item’s price would cut too deeply into their margins. BK corporate is unfazed, though, and is asking their franchise owners to vote again on launching the promotion — this time for just six weeks. [Crain’s Chicago]
