After launching their once-a-week brunch spot, Hearty Boys, with a bang last February, Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh, the eponymous caterer/restaurateur/tv stars, have announced (via a series of Twitters; aww, technology) that they’re converting to a five-nights-a-week upscale dinner spot, HEARTY:

Here we go (you heard it here 1st). HEARTY RESTAURANT will open mid September in our Broadway space. Dinner 5 nites a week plus Sun brunch. HEARTY will be an upscale comfort food restaurant with Dan’s take on classics ie Pork & Beans (Pork Belly, Giant Beans, Savory Sweet Sauce). Also a weekly Campfire Fish market special. Fresh catch, herbed butter, market veggies wrapped in foil and cooked over hot coals. And Pork Chop and Applesauce. Dry rubbed double cut bone in pork chop served with thyme laced applesauce, red flannel hash & fried duck egg. The bar will reflect our love of lost cocktails; Brown Derby, Montauk, Pegu Club & twists using american classic bevs like the Cel-Ray Mary. We plan to close for a week or so around Labor Day to restructure (no construction needed), rechristen the front door with prosecco and go!

Dish adds even more info, sitting down with McDonagh who reveals that the shift was family-related: “We wanted to do this two or three years back, but our son was only two.” If you can’t wait for the Labor Day launch, give the restaurant a call to reserve your spot at the preview dinner on July 28th, $35 for three courses.
