Prairie Fire Coming To The Old Powerhouse Space

Great news for the historic powerhouse building at 215 N. Clinton (most recently the site of the now-shuttered Powerhouse): North suburban chefs Sarah Stegner and George Bumbaris are opening Prairie Fire, an urban offshoot of their Northbrook restaurant Prairie Grass Cafe, in the old restaurant space. (As previously reported, the bar area is being separated into an independent operation tentatively called New Line.)

Per their official announcement, Stegner and Bumbaris don’t seem too inclined to mess with a good thing: the duo are planning on serving “contemporary comfort food with emphasis on seasonal and local menu items,” with some favorites from Prairie Grass Cafe showing up on the new menu (including, we hope, their awesome burger, which both we and Chicago mag’s Jeff Ruby consider one of the best in town). Either Stegner or Bumbaris will be in the kitchen at all times, and with plans to overhaul the dining room only a little, Prairie Fire is anticipating a November opening.
