What Would Chicago Vodka Taste Like?

What Would Chicago Vodka Taste Like?

Our Boston counterparts recently received a bottle of Absolut Boston, a flavored vodka specially designed to capture the essence of Beantown via notes of elderflower and black tea and some promotional copy about the Gren Monster. After conducting a highly scientific taste test at GSHQ, the Bostonians decided that it was, in short, awful. Absolut has created city-specific vodkas for New Orleans and Los Angeles, and we can only imagine Chicago is there on the list as well, and we're not sure what to expect — so many of the iconic Chicago flavors are meat-related, and that doesn't exactly translate to cocktail hour. Essence of hot dog? Giardinera and beef? Eau de historic slaughterhouse? How would you flavor a Chicago vodka?

  • Chicago vodka would just be Effen. Plain or Black Cherry. Home of the best.

  • Well, a lot of sausage has fennel, which is like anise, which is a common liquor flavor. Licorice-ish Vodka maybe?

  • It's got to be sausage. Subtle hints of fennel seed and spice and a bit of porky umame.

  • From railroads to ribs to the Great Chicago Fire, smoke would be the perfect Chicago Absolut flavor.

  • Our name means "onion field," so, onion? Not exactly the most appetizing flavor for a liquor.

  • Pizza (oregano, tomato)? Garret's popcorn (specifically the caramel/cheese mix...or on second thought, just the caramel)?
