• Phil Vettel is completely charmed by 33 Club (as was Pat Bruno, not so much David Tamarkin), which he finds elegant in atmosphere with consistently top-notch food. [Tribune]

• Tamarkin does get a nice experience, though, with the almost orgasmically good spinach salad (seriously) at Elate. The menu’s full of unexpected flavor pairings that (for the most part — there are a few misses) harmonize beautifully. [TOC]

• Despite its New York pedigree, Heather Shouse doesn’t find the burger at The Bad Apple to be all that exceptional. The rest of the menu clocks in as mediocre as well, though the beer list makes up a little. [TOC]

• Joe Gray takes mainstream something LTHers and other authenticity-fiends have known for a long while: the food at Cemitas Puebla is a revelation. [Tribune]
