Munich In Federal Plaza; Mexico In Pilsen

For those with restless palates, today offers the chance to dive headfirst into cultural special events that are half a world apart. The annual Berghoff Oktoberfest kicks off at 11 a.m. at Federal Plaza (Adams and Dearborn), and in the evening all of Pilsen opens their doors for the annual Buen Provecho Pilsen restaurant tour.

While the Oktoberfest is more or less the same as it is every year (Berghoff beer, brats, pretzels, and drinkin’ music), this year’s Buen Provecho Pilsen seems likely to have a new vibe: along with Mexican-food stalwarts like La Cebollita and Taqueria Los Comales, the tour also includes some of the leader’s of Pilsen’s hipsterization: Nightwood’s on board, and the South Halsted Lush Wine & Spirits will be doing tequila tastings. Admission to Berghoff Oktoberfest (which runs through Friday) is free; Bueno Provecho Pilsen requires tickets. More information can be found here.
