After Rick Bayless’s epic win on Top Chef Masters, landing a reservation at Topolobampo has required an act of God or some serious OpenTable hacking skills. Or, it turns out, the help of a well-placed government employee. The granddaughter of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wanted nothing more than to celebrate her 19th birthday over dinner at Topolo with five of her dearest friends. Legal blog Above The Law got its hands on a mass email imploring the employees of white-shoe firm Kirkland & Ellis (where a high-ranking partner co-authored a tax treatise with the Justice’s husband) to assist.
Justice Ginsburg’s granddaughter is having her 19th birthday on October 3rd and wants to celebrate with 5 friends at her favorite restauraunt — Topolobampo. Unfortunately, they are booked solid on that date. Does anyone know Rick Bayless (the owner of Topolobampo and Frontera Grill) who could possibly make a table available for her.
And oh, hurrah, there’s a happy ending. Someone at K&P; came through, and Li’l Ginsburg will be celebrating her birthday in style. And for those of us who are not related to the highest judicial authority in the nation, there’s always waiting in line at Xoco or Frontera — really not too shabby a consolation prize.
