State Street development Block 37 might still be going into foreclosure even before it opens — despite the anticipated presence of Loop-friendly food purveyors like Beard Papa Cream Puffs, Freshii, and Bleeding Heart Bakery (plus, you know, non-food stores like Zara, Anthropologie, and Swarovski) — reports the Tribune. “It’s probably the tip of the iceberg of banks taking properties back,” said a retail real estate expert. If the foreclosure suit goes through, there’s a good chance the project won’t get back on track. But a city spokesman was optimistic: “our hope is we can work this out and keep this project going.” [Tribune]
