At Last, Art Smith Lands a TV Show

After his charming turn on Top Chef Masters (so cuddly! So Southern! So hilarious!), it was only a matter of time before Table 52 chef Art Smith got his own TV show. TLC has cast him to host Craving Comfort, a food-travel show focused on what the network describes as "the great personal stories behind America’s classic comfort foods," reports The Live Feed. Debuting in late 2010, the show is the latest in TLC's ramped up food programming, anchored by the pastry-based reality soap opera (and Jon and Kate Plus 8 replacement!) Cake Boss.

While Craving Comfort won't have Smith behind the stove — as with most travel-food shows, he'll be traipsing around the country checking up on the best apple pies and the charming folks who bake them — we're just glad to see him on TV. It's been a mild point of curiosity to us for some time that Smith, a guy with charisma, humor, and (lest we forget) boundless Oprah connections, had not yet launched his small-screen platform. Even O's dog psychologist got his own show. It's about time.

  • I just ran into them filming at Doughnut Plant on Saturday! He's a nice guy....bumped into Mark Isreal too.

  • Now, since you're calling out Next Iron Chef for their misspelling I couldn't resist: It's Table Fifty-Two not Table 52. Sorry.
