Indoor Smokers More Than Happy to Preemptively Offset Fines

Smoker-friendly bars and restaurants in Chicago apparently hit up their patrons for donations to a “smoking fund,” the cash from which is used to offset the fines the establishment will incur if the fuzz catches wind of the ordinance violation, reports the Trib. And they don’t mind — patrons consider the voluntary donation “akin to membership fees at a private club.” Our cig-happy friends assure us that this is nothing new, yawn, but this particular brand of cohesively organized f-you to the law is news to us.
