Former Pops for Champagne chef Andrew Brochu, who turned the champers bar into a real culinary destination before leaving suddenly last month, has had his new gig revealed: he’ll be helming the kitchen at Kith and Kin, a soon-to-open restaurant taking over the former La Canasta space in Lincoln Park, 312DD reports. Brochu’s boss will be David Carrier, who comes to town by way of Florida, where he helmed a restaurant outside of Tallahassee. Like Brochu (who’s an Alinea alum), Carrier is well-pedigreed: he’s a vet of the French Laundry (yet another !), and did time at Trio back in the day.

Carrier told the Diva that on offer will be “simple country food, no pretension, laid back and relatively inexpensive price points. Everything’s from scratch and we’ll shop locally when we can.” As for the restaurant’s warm-and-fuzzy name, he says he drew it from the classic line in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation: “The most enduring traditions of the season are best enjoyed in the warm embrace of kith and kin. Thith tree is a thymbol of the the thspirit of the Griswold family Chrithmath.” We thuppose we could get exthited about thith.
