The folks at Food & Wine, thinking frugally, have rounded up their picks for this year’s ten best restaurant dishes under $12. Topping the list is Chicago’s very own Perennial, with a shoutout to Ryan Poli’s Roman-style crispy-outside-creamy-inside black truffle gnocchi. And it’s not just the Midwest that has the good stuff: among those also honored are the meatball sliders at New York’s Locanda Verde, the spicy seafood soup at San Francisco’s Heaven’s Dog, in L.A. both José Andrés’s gourmet take on the Philly cheesesteak at The Bazaar and the Blackjack quesadilla at Kogi taco truck, and the crispy fried pigs’ tails at Craigie on Main in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
