It’s not every contemporary orchestral sextet that can command hardcore headliners like Nifty Paul and The Orange One for their annual benefits, but we suppose that’s just part of the deal when you’re Eighth Blackbird. On March 15, they’ll perform a special concert featuring highlights from their 2009 tour — with an auditory assist from Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and no less than Mario Batali on guitar. Follow that up with a five-course meal at The Publican prepared by Batali and Kahan (two courses each, plus one from the Publican kitchen, all inspired by Eighth Blackbird’s music), and it’s one of those nights that has the potential to be legendary. Tickets, unsurprisingly, run steep: you can get your $250 per head reservation, plus more details, here.
