It could be the end of days for McDonald's Chief Happiness Officer. Corporate Accountability International, the group that successfully pressured Camel to drop its mascot Joe, will throw retirement parties for Ronald McDonald at McDonald's across the country on Wednesday, reports the Tribune. The clown, CAI charges, is a blatant attempt by McDonald's to market fast food to children and should be retired in light of the childhood obesity crisis. McDonald's, of course, has no such plans and points out that Ronald McDonald is also the face of the Ronald McDonald House Charities, an organization that provides housing for families of critically ill children. The rest of the McDonaldland characters, including the Hamburglar and Mayor McCheese, have been phased out in recent years.
