Pang and Doerksen Win at James Beard Media Awards; Dolinsky Eats Everything in NYC
The full list of winners from the James Beard Foundation Media Awards were announced last night, but we wanted to wish a very special congrats to hometown boys Kevin Pang and Cliff Doerksen. Pang won best Multimedia Food Feature for the Cheeseburger Show, while Doerksen picked up the best Newspaper Feature Writing for his piece on mince meat pies in the Chicago Reader. But it was perhaps just unleashing all these Chicagoans in New York that provided the most entertaining bits, including one of the most epic rundowns of gorging ever captured on Twitter by Steve Dolinsky. Is there a category for best food tweet yet?
The Hungry Hound didn't end up winning for best Television Segment, but we have a feeling the Dolinsky had a good time in the New York last weekend. He prefaced his adventure with this tweet:
And then he did his worst:
Fans & followers, HUGE tweeting weekend ahead: Flushing, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Beard Awards & my annual 4-star lunch. Fasten your seatbelts..
Chicken thigh and mackerel at Yakitori Torys
Swordfish crostini from Diner in Brooklyn
Fleur de sel chocolate chip cookie from Marlow & Sons
VanLeeuwen Ice Cream Truck
Guanciale, egg and fresh Mozzarella pizza at Roberta's
Popsicle at Chelsea Market
Szechuan chicken and spicy shredded pig stomach at Mapo Szechuan
Mango shave ice at the Flushing Mall
Duck buns in Flushing
Way to take one for the team. Pang, for his part, visited Flatbush Farm and Fette Sau. But our favorite part was Dolinsky and Pang meeting up for Crif Dogs (Dolinsky said they were "awful"), and then hanging out together at the awards. We're thinking they need to spend more time together.
