Flo & Santos Confuses Pat Bruno; Rendezvous Bistro Charms Penny Pollack

Pat Bruno is a little perplexed by the Italian and Polish combination at Flo & Santos, finally deciding its menu can be,”fun once in a while, but not for a steady diet.” The pizzas, in general, have a nice crunch, “but there wasn’t enough texture or chew to get my attention.” But, “it’s hard to go too far wrong,” with the “Grace’s Favorite,” featuring sausage, peppers, and mushrooms. [Sun-Times]

Penny Pollack is charmed by Rendezvous Bistro on Lawrence. She likes that owner Simon Yaacobi, “has set his prices at an inviting level.” The poulet rôti was, “crispy skinned and redolent of rosemary,” and the fries, “were still fab the next day.” For Pollack, it’s “the real deal.” [Chicago Magazine]

Perhaps in honor of Epic Burger’s new location in Lincoln Park, Bruno finally visits the gourmet hamburger joint. He essentially gets all his opinions out in the first paragraph: “Are they impressive? Yes. Do they surpass the ordinary? No. Are they really good? Yes.” He’s even a fan of the turkey burger, which was “quite enjoyable.” [Sun-Times]
