When we heard that Wicker Park’s proposed new sausage and beer joint got a name and a potential opening date, we were thrilled. But the name Bangers & Lace confused us beyond all belief. Sure, we knew that bangers were sausages in Britain, but how did the lace fit in? We Googled it and came up with a British lingerie shop serving “Beautifully Curvy and Comfy Lingerie.” Turns out that’s not quite what they had in mind. According to Penny Pollack from the Chicago Magazine the lace refers to “Belgian lace” or, “the foam that clings to a beer glass after it’s been drained.” They’ll certainly be serious about the beer, serving up 30 draft options, plus loads of bottles and can. A cicerone–a beer Sommelier–will help you with your drinking needs. So even though Doug Sohn may not be a real consultant, at least the beer is going to be good. The restaurant plans to open around Labor Day. [Chicago Magazine via Feast]
