Without any ceremony or much of a warning, Boston Blackie’s closed some of its outlets yesterday including its Gold Coast and Skokie locations. More are rumored to have been closed, and we are waiting to see whether the whole thing is falling apart. While sudden, it isn’t exactly surprising. Last December the chain filed for bankruptcy protection, and in March the owners were charged with defrauding two banks by writing bad checks. Still it seems kind of strange. We’re with Feast on this one. Boston Blackie’s always seemed like this Chicago institution, especially to the tourists around Michigan Avenue.
