Chefs Select Favorite Dishes for Departures

Departures magazine gathered eight of the biggest chefs in Chicago (including Grant Achatz, Stephanie Izard, Laurent Gras, and Graham Elliot) to talk about their personal picks for restaurants in the city. The list skips past just straight restaurant recommendations, instead going for the most innovative dish they’ve had recently, their favorite haute splurge, and favorite up-and comer. But we were particularly interested in the cheap eats question, which was all over the map (though not literally). Achatz went for Vietnamese (bánh hỏi from Pho 777), Gras selected Hawaiian (Plate Lunch at Aloha Eats), while Brian Huston from the The Publican went with American (double cheeseburger at Bill’s Drive-In).
