Chicago’s New Taco Tour: Taco Joint and Barrio

Chicago wasn’t really wanting for tacos or taco joints, but that hasn’t stopped a series of new restaurants opening with hopes of tapping into the runaway success of Big Star. Like Paul Kahan’s honky tonk joint, these places rely on freshly made corn tortillas, simple toppings, and meats that are either grilled or braised. To be sure, you’ll have a much easier time finding barbacoa than ground beef. Recently both Barrio Urban Taqueria and Taco Joint opened up, and we decided to take a long lunch to document the city’s ever expanding taco scene. Click on the picture to follow along.
