Leopold Not Named After Leopold II, The Genocidal Colonialist

After a brief New Year’s Eve dinner, Leopold opened in West Town this week with a Belgian influenced menu. Anyway, some people on LTHForum wondered if the restaurant had been named after the infamous Leopold II, King of the Belgians from 1865 to 1909, who committed some of the most heinous crimes of the past 200 years. Luckily, Jennifer Galdes, who covers PR for the restaurant, chimed in and related that the owners simply stayed at a Hotel Leopold while doing research in Belgium, and noticed the name everywhere. “Nothing more than it’s a popular name throughout Belgium, nothing sinister and no offense meant!” [LTHForum]
