Rogers Park Mediterranean Restaurant Closed Due to Extensive Rodent Infestation

Sometimes it feels like the health department unfairly closes a restaurant for one ridiculously small infraction that would be nearly impossible to avoid. But that’s certainly not the case with Big Buns and Pita in Rogers Park, which was shut down yesterday by Mayor Daley’s Dumpster Task Force on an array of pest issues. Among the findings were more than 150 mice droppings, 50 rat droppings, and live roaches. Also, the restaurant hadn’t been maintaining its grease disposal container, and someone had apparently been smoking in the basement. As you can imagine, no certified food manager was present at the time. Oddly, it seems like the restaurant changed its name years ago to Sahara Kabob. We're not sure why the authorities are going with the older name. Still, we suggest you wait a little bit until everything is cleaned up. [FOX]
