We first heard about Mark Steuer’s The Bedford back in January, when the chef surprisingly left The Gage. We haven’t heard much since then, but on March 22 through the 24, we’ll get a sneak preview of three different dishes when he rides along with Cary Taylor on The Southern Mac food truck. Testing out menu items on food trucks seems to be the newly accepted way for chefs to fine tune their menu, as Giuseppe Tentori did the same thing back in December. Since Steuer will be on a mac & cheese food truck, you better believe that each of his three options will be in pasta and cheese form. So what’s on the menu?
Each of items feature a strong European bent. But check them out for yourself:
• Kasespaetzle - A Gruyère mac & cheese with onions and pork belly
• Carbonara - Featuring pancetta, shallots, peas, béchamel, egg yolk and
• Stroganoff - Comes with roasted mushrooms, blue cheese, meatballs and sherry.
You can also feel good about stuffing your face with noodles and cheese, as proceeds from the run will be donated to The Working Bikes Cooperative. Apparently if you ride your bike to the truck you can get a drink for free. Check out The Southern Mac Twitter feed to see where it will stop during the day. Oh, and remember your bike.
