Looks like another food truck won’t reopen for spring. Happy Bodega, which had been dormant during the winter months, has officially decided not to return to the streets. Talking to the Tribune, owner Amanda Cavazos claimed that the restrictive food truck laws in Chicago were obviously the issue, but not for the reasons you may have expected. While it was frustrating that she “couldn’t even pour coffee,” she also noted that the biggest expensive was renting kitchen space. Under the current laws, all food sold on the truck must be cooked in a licensed kitchen, which apparently “made the economics prohibitive for her.” If the laws are changed, there is a chance she could return. Still, it’s sad to see another truck go. [Trib]
