The Logan Square restaurant boom continues today with Danzón Restaurante. Some of you may remember that the space used to be a Fiesta Uno, and a El Pollo Loco before that. They were basically fast food joints, and not exactly the nicest restaurants in the neighborhood, but Danzón definitely seems to striving for something more. First off, the restaurant will be run by Geno Bahena, who has worked at places like Frontera Grill and Real Tenochitilan. He’s also taken the old gas grill and converted it into a wood-burning one. So, it makes complete sense that as many menu items as possible are cooked on that grill.

The menu itself spends most of its time on Mexican food, which means you can get carne asada and cochinita pibil. But it also skips around a lot to other Spanish-speaking countries, including stops in Cuba, Peru, and even Spain. It’ll be interesting to see if the restaurant can pull all of this off. It’s BYOB for now, and is set to open tonight. Check out the full menu below.
