Ever wanted to know what chefs really eat when they are hungry during the crush of service? On a recent post on Soapbox, Bryce Caron from Custom House Tavern recalled the time David Posey of Blackbird taught him to make a “prison tamale.” According to Caron, you simply mix a bag of ramen and Doritos together, smash them up, add hot water, roll into a cylinder, and then let it sit for a few minutes. Caron explains that the “coagulated monstrosity tastes exactly like you imagine it would. It's kind of repugnant, kind of delicious.” We thought it was a totally made up thing, but a little research has proved that it is very real, even if it sometimes called a "ghetto tamale." The YouTube clip below explains in detail how to create one at home. You are welcome.
