There are loads of coffee shops around the area, but few that roast their own beans with such care as Bucktown’s Ipsento. So, we were saddened to hear that the shop had to close on Friday. Ipsento issued a statement on Facebook which explained that the state revoked its business license when it “mistakenly overlooked the filing and paying of nine months of sales tax” back in 2010. While the coffee shop hoped resolve the matter in a matter of a few hours, it looks like it may be closed for a few more days.

When we called, we were told that they were meeting with the state today, and could potentially reopen as early as tomorrow. That said, they are trying to not make any promises, as it really depends on how quickly the state can address the issue. In the meantime, hopefully you can find some other place to caffeinate yourself today.

Below is the full statement from Ipsento:

Ipsento is temporarily closed.

In 2010, we mistakenly overlooked the filing and paying of nine months of sales tax. We have been current with this year’s sales tax. However, to date, we have been unable to pay the lump sum, so we fell behind. For this reason, the state revoked our business license yesterday. We are working hard to get the license back… and have been told by our tax expert lawyers that this shouldn’t be a problem. We originally thought we could turn this around right away. But that’s not how the Department of Revenue works.

Our hope is to re-open next Monday afternoon. We’ll keep you informed as we find out more.
We REALLY appreciate how supportive you all have been!
