We already knew that Chicagoans love their hot dogs; in fact, it’s kind of scientifically proven at this point. But the city is also apparently very good at raising competitive hot dog eaters, as local hero, Patrick Bertoletti, managed to come in second at this year’s Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. According to the play by play on ESPN — yes, ESPN did cover the event — Bertoletti “hung tight early” with Joey Chestnut, before downing a very respectable 53 hot dogs. Of course, we know there is a little controversy about the results this year, but we’re still awfully proud. [ESPN]
