Here’s the shocker of the summer: The Tribune reports that Curtis Duffy is leaving Avenues to open his own place in the West Loop. Though the trend for most chefs is to open more approachable concepts, he’ll be doing the opposite. Talking to Kevin Pang, Duffy said he wants the food to be even “more refined,” so it can be the “best restaurant in the country.” The only other chef we’ve heard make comments like that is Grant Achatz, but it makes sense considering Duffy was formerly the chef de cuisine at Alinea.
