We’ve already been nationally lauded as the best hot dog city in the country, but what would it take to get the world title? Well, this just may do it: Let us present the aptly titled Big Hot Dog, a 7-pound and 16-inch-long sausage, which is now officially the largest commercially available hot dog according to Guinness World Records. Dan Abbate, the CEO and owner of Gorilla Tango Novelty Meats, told us that the sausage is created in nearby Niles by Schmeisser’s Home Made Sausage, and has actually been available since December of 2009.

We first read about the achievement in Dining Chicago, but were unable double check the information with any other source, including Guinness World Records’ website. Luckily, Abbate got back to us, and sent over a picture of the official certificate from the organization. In fact, Guinness is sending photographers over from London to take pictures for the print addition. This should prove to the rest of the world how serious Chicago is about its hot dogs. Well done.

Those interested in actually tasting the 7-pound hot dog can do so here.
