We Have a Winner for Two Tickets to Café des Architectes’ Les Amis du Chef

Last week, we let you know about Café Des Architectes’ beer-centric Les Amis du Chef, and also let you know how you could win a pair of free tickets to the event. All you had to do was explain why you loved beer, and why you should get to taste it in such a fine French setting. Numerous people entered, but only one managed to tie the contest to some dubious sounding scientific research project with the potential to “help not only me, not only Chicago, but potentially all of mankind.”

Though we figured that this was probably a bogus claim, the entry was just too creative to pass up. The winner, by an overwhelming margin, was reader Katie. Here’s her winning entry:

As a research specialist in the Liver Clinic at UIC, I have been trying to get grant money to do some research on whether really GOOD beer damages the liver in the same way that crappy beer does. However, this grant money has not really been forthcoming…I’m not sure why, my proposals have both the random facts and the sheer tedium normally needed to gain national or state funding, but alas. This opportunity would allow me to do further research on the subject, and allow me to get buzzed.

Allowing me to attend this tasting would help not only me, not only Chicago, but potentially all of mankind. It’s really only the right thing to do.

When pressed, she admitted that while she does work at the Liver Clinic, “I haven’t actually proposed this research in any serious capacity.” Who cares. Congrats to Katie on the winning entry. Hopefully, this noble research project will actually get some funding soon.
