Restaurants Keep Labor Day Alive: Lula, Hot Doug’s, Big Star, and Kuma’s Still Closed

Labor Day may be officially over, but that doesn’t mean that every chef is back in the kitchen. Here are a few places that need just a few more days off.

Logan Square: Lula Cafe at least has a good excuse. The restaurant is in the midst of another phase of its expansion, which will eventually see it take over the cleaning store next door. Already, the bar has been removed, and the wall has been torn down between the two spaces. Lula hopes to be back open by the weekend. [Grub Street]

Avondale: Hot Doug’s, on the other hand, always takes holidays seriously. The city’s most popular hot dog stand will remain closed until Friday — just in time for some more duck fat fries. [Grub Street]

Wicker Park: Big Star is also closed today for some “construction projects.” Luckily, the to-go window will remain open, so you can still indulge all of your al pastor needs. [BigStarChicago/Twitter]

Avondale: What’s up with Avondale joints? Kuma’s Corner was already closed on Sunday and Monday, and will also be closed today. It will get back to serving those enormous burgers on Wednesday. [Kumassous/Twitter]
