It’s taken over two years for The Otherroom’s Criag Weiss to complete his vision for Local 1205, the Abbot Kinney gourmet market and restaurant opening at noon today in Venice. Now that we’ve had a peak inside, it’s clear the time was used wisely. The naturally lit space is a gem, with furniture imported from Paris, vintage fittings, and a well-organized spread that incorporates fresh produce, imported delicacies, and packaged products with a counter for grass-fed meats, charcuterie, bread, and cheese, fresh pressed juice bar, fresh flowers, a station for made-to-order melts, and room for a forthcoming raw bar and Brazilian pizza bar. Come take a look.

In both look and functionality, Local 1205 looks, on first impression, to be just the kind of business that really takes off on Abbot Kinney; chic, rustic, and devoted to local and/or meticulously-crafted product, with a dining experience both casual and well-tailored. It probably won’t be long before it’s as packed as Weiss’ neighboring mainstay bar.

For the first few weeks, Local 1205 will be open from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. daily, with plans to soon extend service from 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 A.M. Take a look at the space in our slideshow.

Open today in Venice.
Melts and egg sandwiches will be made alongside torpedos and Niman Ranch short rib sandwiches, while Hansen’s Coffee will be served.
Inspired by New York delis, Weiss is offering roasted, hand-carved meats, cuts, sausages, and smoked fish from New York staples like Russ and Daughters and Katz’s, alongside charcuterie and cheese.
Weiss plans a raw bar with oysters, crab rolls, Taylor Bay scallops, cockles, and langoustines.
Abound in the lovely space.
