We have no idea where this came from, but today, January 16, is apparently International Hot and Spicy Food Day as decreed by somebody, somewhere. That’s good enough for the mad scientist of Evanston burger makers, Gus Nunya of Wiener & Still Champion at 802 Dempster, who’s turning the heat up with his IH&SFD; offerings. There’s the Hell on Earth Burger, a 1/3 lb. burger patty topped with Chili Garlic ketchup, spicy mustard, Hellllish Relish (not sure why the extra L’s, but we like it), fried jalapeno chips and housemade habanero hot sauce. Gus claims it’s the hottest burger in Chicagoland, and really, who’d doubt it? Naturally, you’ll want to accompany it with a side of Fire Fries, topped with housemade chili, cheese, Hellllish Relish, habanero hot sauce and jalapeno chips. Or go minimalist and just top your classic Chicago hot dogs with Hellllish Relish. Either way, the special dipping sauce of the week will be Hot Ketchup.
