Last week dealt us the bummer of long-in-the-works, but not-so-long-in-actual-operation Sticks & Stones’ abrupt closing. And news of its successor comes as a bit of mixed fortune for the bustling East Passyunk Ave. restaurant row. The Insider reports that Marcos Decotiis, a vet from Kitchen Impossible-d La Satnza in deep South Philly is stepping up to transform the space into Noir, which will feature throwback menu with French and American inspired dishes, jazz and black and white movies. We’re guessing he didn’t get the memo that the brief moment the fedora just enjoyed is over.

As if that wasn’t enough of a tough sell, there’s also word coming from the Piazza that Tony Rim’s short-lived Raw, which briefly occupied the space left vacant by Shola Olunloyo’s stillborn Speck, is being re-conceptualized as mega-beer bar, with a “wall of taps,” and karaoke. While we’re pretty certain that there’s no shortage of thirsty, beer-loving folks in this town to fill a space of that scale, we’re just curious how this plan sits with the owners of Gunners Run, the beer bar that’s just a couple hundred feet away on the other side of the Piazza.
