Frankenstein always goes well with peasants (brandishing torches), so it’s only logical that the same should be true of Franks ‘N’ Dawgs. Dish reports that Alexander Brunacci, owner of the Clybourn Corridor haute dog spot, the first gourmet sausage joint to follow in the footsteps of Hot Doug’s and really establish its own culinary identity, plans to open a new place called The Peasantry at 2723 N. Clark. It’s more upscale and conventional-sounding than Franks ‘N’ Dawgs, with a menu of things like grilled flatbreads and pastas, but some of it will reportedly take a similar approach to reinventing populist foods with items like octopus, duck or venison gyros— and at a similar price range. Personally, we’re having trouble hearing “The Peasantry” without thinking of old jokes (“Your majesty, the peasants are revolting.” “They sure are!”) but we’re looking past the curious name to look forward to Brunacci’s expanding into other foods besides sausage when it opens in May.
