Elite Traveler magazine— haven’t heard of it before, but then we’re hardly one— has put out its first list of the best restaurants in the world. And Alinea— have heard of it— is at the top of the list. This all seems a pretty clear shot across the bow of Restaurant Magazine and S. Pellegrino’s annual “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list, due at the end of the month, which has certainly had high praise for Alinea (which placed in the top 10 and was #1 for North America in both of the last two years) but famously anointed Denmark’s Noma as the conventional wisdom’s default best restaurant in the world. Elite Traveler, on the other hand, knocks Noma down to #24. See the top 20 here, or download the full guide from “The Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine” at the link on that page. Upon reading the news, Grant Achatz tweeted the comments of executive chef Matt Chausseur: “We can only go down from here, chef.”
