Edzo’s Signs Lease in Lincoln Park

Edzo’s has been planning a second location for some time, and owner Eddie Lakin has been working on training additional staff for at least a few weeks (as you could tell just by looking behind his more-than-usually crowded counter). Lakin says he “was planning on announcing closer to Lollapalooza,” which he’ll be participating in, but Eater “found some public real estate listing about me signing the lease” and broke the news yesterday. The location at 2218 N. Lincoln is an historic one: although it was most recently a pretzel-bread-oriented sandwich shop, 30 years ago it was The Bakery, Louis Szathmary’s French restaurant which helped launch our modern culinary scene in the 1970s and 1980s. With less seating than Evanston’s location, it will take vigilance to ensure Lakin’s no-sitting-before-ordering rule (and some Eater commenters are already carping at the nonexistent restaurant for that), but we suspect the overwhelming reaction in the area will be joy. Look for many moms and toddlers coming over from the zoo and for Lakin to expand upon his Green City Market burgers. [Eater]
