Roscoe Village is surrounded by neighborhoods with hot, buzzing restaurant scenes, but with nothing more exciting than a few sports bars, Asian delivery places and the requisite Starbuckses, it rarely manages to be a destination neighborhood itself except for Sunday breakfast. So the prospect of a coffee and pastry shop from someone whose resume has names on it like Momofuku and Schwa on it would be a big step toward hipness. 312 Dining Diva reports that Jonathan Ory, a chef with experience at those places as well as Atlanta’s Restaurant Eugene and early 2000s sushi star Heat, and his wife Sarah are planning to open Bad Wolf Coffee at 3422 N. Lincoln Avenue, featuring Counter Culture coffee, Rishi teas, and housemade pastries. Ory started out in savory cooking, but helping out with pastries got him interested in that side and he plans an assortment of pastries with exotic but approachable flavors such as a financier of honey, almonds and saffron or a rum baba of preserved lemons and grains of paradise. The Orys hope to open by late November. [312DD]
