The new owners of Marlena’s have been revealed today via a liquor license application, and they are Anthony Healy-London, Matthew Conway, and Joshua McAdam. As we first reported last week, the bar is closing in March and will get a new name from the new owners, but will remain a neighborhood bar that is “welcoming to both gay and straight” clientele. Nevertheless, one can expect things will go in a new direction with things like a cocktail program, and the LLC these three have started is called Burgers 355, so we have to wonder if there won’t be a burger menu in the cards as well. The Scoop points out that Conway has worked as a bartender at Comstock Saloon, Absinthe, and Nopa, and Healy-London is a partner in Churchill — the bar at Church and Market that replaced a former gay bar briefly known as the Bar on Church, previously The Transfer. [Earlier] Update: Hayeswire reaches Healy-London who says that he and his partners intend to keep some of the Marlena’s tradition alive. “We understand what Marlena’s has meant (and continues to mean) to this neighborhood and we are sensitive to that in our decision-making process.” The plan is to reopen with a new name, after a remodel, by late April.
