Cinco de Mayo comes in a kit.

Few holidays bring out the poetic side in the authors of press releases like Cinco de Mayo. With little actually to say about the holiday (it has something to do with the fifth of May, we know that), they can get straight to the true author’s muse: drink specials. We’ve got tons of Cinco de Mayo specials, we’re sure there are at least tres or cuatro for you right here.

Mercadito has a full weekend of activities “starting with a Brunch Fiesta on Saturday, May 4 and finishing with an All-Day Fiesta on Sunday, May 5. On Saturday, enjoy brunch favorites such as Huevos Rancheros and Chilaquiles and celebratory food specials, accompanied by the return of Bloody Mary and Margarita Brunch Bottles for $35. The party goes from morning till night on Cinco de Mayo Sunday, starting with a mariachi band during the day and finishing with a live DJ in the evening.”

• Pioneer Tavern Group will run their third annual Cinco de Mayo Dos Equis Trolley Crawl between Lottie’s Pub, The Pony and Frontier on Sunday, May 5. The trolley is FREE and pick-up will begin at 1 p.m.

• River North “Farm to tavern” spot Central Standard will have a South of the Border Brunch Sunday, which is also by way of saying, they kicked off brunch recently.

• We still don’t know when the Tiki bar …_ is opening, but in the meantime, Paul McGee whipped up a “Mexican Firing Squad” (too soon! cries Maximilian I) for Bub City, a frozen combination of Corazon Blanco tequila, pomegranate, lime and angostura ($10).

• Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba— hey, Spain, Mexico, what’s the diff— will have half price signature cocktails all day. Get your $5.50 BaBa Margarita and nosh the tapas and pintxos.

• Daring you to misread what the name implies, R.J. Grunt’s unveils a Gourmet Burger of the Month called the Chihuahua Burger: “a half pound of ground chuck and sirloin grilled to your liking, and topped with Chihuahua Cheese, jalapeno cabbage slaw, pickled red onions, cilantro, and a generous schmear of Cholula garlic aioli.”

• Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap’s spicier offerings for May include the PB&B; Burger which has bacon and Sriracha peanut butter, and Holy Mole! Wings made with a Mexican lager mole sauce.

Taco Joint and Glazed & Infused are teaming up for Cinco de Mayo with Margarita Doughnuts flavored with tequila, fresh lime zest and sea salt.

Hash House a Go Go offers a Chorizo Hash special this weekend, plus a Jalapeño Watermelon Margarita special.

Division Ale House will have a live mariachi band on May 5, plus $3 Corona bottles, $3 El Jimador tequila shots and $2 pulled pork tacos.

• On Sunday, May 5, Geja’s will offer Chili con Queso fondue complete with apples, grapes, bread and tortilla chips for dipping. $5 drink specials include Negra Modelo and Margaritas.

Bad Dog Tavern will have Sunday brunch specials including $5 chilaquiles and $5 breakfast burritos, as well as $5 margaritas and $3 Mexican beers.

• Okay, it’s not a wacky tie-in, okay? Tokio Pub in Schaumburg already offers Asian tacos, so it’s fine that they’re offering $1 tacos all day Sunday.

• Now here’s a different way to celebrate the day: by butchering meat. Red Meat Market will hold a Cinco de Mayo Butcher Class and Margarita on Saturday May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Here’s the details.
