Parm Is Donating All Opening-Day Sales From Its Battery Park City Outpost to Chef Eli Kulp

Parm’s newest location opens at Brookfield Place today, and the Italian-American sandwich shop has announced that it’s donating all of its opening-day profits to Eli Kulp, who worked at Torrisi before moving to Philadelphia to run High Street on Market and Fork. Kulp was a passenger on the Amtrak train that derailed on May 12, and he is undergoing rehabilitation treatment for a serious spinal-cord injury. The accident happened two months after Kulp and co-owner Ellen Yin announced that they were expanding their much-acclaimed restaurant to New York.

Eating mozzarella sticks at Parm isn’t the only way to contribute: A friend of Kulp has set up a GoFundMe account for the chef, and so far, it has raised $34,275. An update over the weekend brought the news that Amtrak has stopped paying for Kulp’s medical coverage, and that the recovery process will be long and slow for the beloved chef, so consider helping reach the goal of $150,000.
